In September 2017, some dear friends of mine from college got married in California. One of the things that I like about destination weddings is that sometimes you end up going to a place you love and never would have gone on your own. Bodega Bay was that for me and more. Being an east coast girl, I am usually in awe of some of the landscapes in California, but Bodega Bay took my breath away.
Here is a typical view from this part of California:
We stayed in an Airbnb cabin in a beach community called, Salmon Creek, and the beautiful views coupled with such an incredible interior was a real treat for me. Seriously, it was nuts.
The one bedroom cabin was an unusual combination of modern and rustic and gave me so much inspiration for upcoming designs I'm working on. I had never thought of California as having a lot of cabins and Salmon Creek was the best kind of surprise. Here is a shot of the living room:
The entire house had beadboard on the walls, which was unique and something you don't see as much on the east coast and in New York. In contrast to the living room the bedroom was simple, with only the sconces as decor on the walls.
Besides being a five minute walk from one of the most spectacular beaches I'd ever seen in my life, a highlight for me was Bodega Trailhead. The views of the water were amazing and the ground was covered with green and red succulents. Seeing the bright blues, greens, and reds with sea lions barking in the background is something I'll never forget. While I had been training for a marathon, I got injured a few weeks ago and have had to put running on hold until my leg heals. The silver lining of not being able to run was the chance to go on a photo walk in the trails of Bodega Bay trailhead while Jeff was doing a trail run.
Another standout room in our Airbnb was the kitchen. It looked like a greenhouse and had a view out to the garden, which had me in plant lady heaven. I wish there had more time to just relax in that garden.
Sitting in my Brooklyn apartment, I miss being able to walk to the beach. California, thanks for a great trip and we will be back soon!
