It’s time for a living room check in! This room has checked a fair amount recently and here is a little summary of what I’ve been up to. You can check out some photos of what it looked like right before we made changes below.
I know that I’ve said this a million times, but rugs make a huge difference! While we are still waiting to find the perfect rug for this room through my wonderful friend Kelly of Broomhill, we really needed to get rid of that jute rug. Jeff and I were both kind of allergic to it and without something layered on top of it (that rug had to get moved to the bedroom), the room felt very cold and unfinished. So, we opted for this inexpensive heriz-style rug. I will say that for what is essentially a picture of a rug on a rug (seriously), it looks pretty good! It photographs really well and if you’re looking for something that won’t break the bank and can stand up to a lot of pet traffic - this is a great choice.
Another big change was adding furniture and art to this corner by the window, which I think helped a lot. I have had this print from the Evolution Store in NYC since I was living in a railroad apartment in Gowanus ten years ago! Here are some throwback photos just for fun.
I am happy with the direction of our current living room now. It feels warmer and I’d like to continue playing up warmth and light. Light, by the way, is why I added a mirror over our fireplace instead of art. Our home is unfortunately very dark (typical of row houses in NYC). so I am trying to do what I can to maximize light in the space.
My upcoming projects are to find better lighting for the room, continue the rug hunt, figure out what to put in the fireplace, and potentially shake up the art on the walls. Stay tuned!

The pets are loving the living room right now I think <3
