If you’ve been following my Instagram, you will know that we found a new apartment! We’ve been searching for over five months, but I am thrilled that we waited for the right place.
Moving twice in such a short amount of time and having to live without 90% of my stuff has been a challenge, but I learned a lot and am grateful to have had such a nice place to live in the interim. Jeff has lived in this DUMBO apartment for years and this was a good first opportunity to combine some of our things.
In this post I will round up my favorite shots of our current apartment where I’ve lived for the past few months and do a recap of my design projects.
When I moved in, we didn’t know how long it would take for us to find an apartment. I put nearly all of my things in storage, but still had my clothes and a few decor items that I didn’t want to store. When we waited a month and still hadn’t found a place, I decided that I needed a dresser but wanted something affordable that I could take with me when we moved. But it needed to not break the bank in case I couldn’t take it. Here’s a look the final project.
Although I liked the dresser, I felt that it needed…something. Swapping hardware is an easy way to quickly update furniture and I decided to tackle that project first. I went on the hunt for hardware and crowd sourced on Instagram to select the perfect thing.
This corner also needed lighting and the simple bulb hung on a plant stand was my simple solution for corner lighting.
Last but not least, we wanted to update the art over our bed without breaking the bank. I searched all over for large scale art and settled on a tapestry from Society6. I ended up being really happy with this piece and thought it added a lot to them room. Even though we only lived with this new set up for a short time, I am so glad that I did the project. You don’t have to sacrifice design when you’re living in a temporary situation!
IVY AND OZZIE
Without a doubt, my favorite part of moving to DUMBO and this apartment was getting to see my cat, Ozzie, and our dog, Ivy, bond for the first time. They had been around each other from time to time, but had never spent a ton of time together. Ivy LOVES Ozzie and I wish that the feeling was mutual. But, I have a feeling Ozzie will come around one of these days! I definitely think he likes having her company (as much as he would like us to think otherwise haha).
I love taking photos of the two of them and here are my favorites from the past few months.
Plants were a big thing that Jeff and I had to combine right away because they couldn’t go into storage. We had to get rid of a few plants that weren’t doing so well, but I was ultimately really happy at the way our plant collections combined! I’m glad that we’re now moving to a new place so that I can start collecting plants again!
Below is a last shot of our DUMBO apartment. Thanks for reading and for sticking with me during this transition period. If you’re ever living in a temporary situation you don’t have to sacrifice design! I hope this post is inspiration for some small and cost effective ways you can update your space, even if you won’t necessarily be there that long.
