Secret Sauce: Target Hearth & Hand Picks

August 14, 2018

I love Target and the Gaines' as much as everyone else, but when I first found out last year that they were launching a collaboration, I was unsure if I would like anything in the line. While I don't like to categorize my style too much....it's definitely not farmhouse. But, I was ultimately so surprised by how much I loved many pieces Hearth & Hand line. Everything I have from the collection is so well made and versatile that it can go in almost any style home.

In honor of the line's recent lunch of their Fall collection, I wanted to round up my current favorites from the H&H and share how I use them in my decor. Below is the roundup and a short description of why I love each piece.

The metal bin I have on the kitchen counter is just one example of how I use this amazing versatile piece. I literally have ten of them and use them to organize my entire closet and for other storage. They are the perfect size, amazing quality, and look gorgeous as functional or display storage.

1. Floor Lamp - A well made black and brass floor lamp for under $100?! Count me in. I don't currently have space for this, but if you follow my decorating you know that I'm a sucker for gold and black together in lighting.

2. Storage Basket - I love check patterns so much that I wrote an entire post about it! This is perhaps the most timeless pattern in the world and I love the way it was updated with a light blue grid to accent the black. The ability to hang this piece makes it even more versatile.

3. Metal Bin - I literally use these all over my apartment. They are what I use to organize my closet and you'll also see it on my kitchen counter above. They are gorgeous, also mix gold and black, and hold so much. I hope that they are still in stock when I move so that I can buy more!

4. Enamel Plates - I don't decorate with a lot of color, but the hint of blue in these plates is perfect. I grew up on a farm and used to find nests everywhere with robins' eggs. This color reminds me of that blue. Durable plates like this would be great for outdoor entertaining.

5. Bath Canister - This is a piece from the new H&H line that just launched in August 2018 and I love the color. It would work as a bath canister and I would also remove the top and use it as a vase.

6. Wooden Trays - If you try hard and believe in yourself...anything can be a plant stand! These little wooden trays are the absolutely perfect stand for a plant or sculptural object. They also work as a serving board. Basically, they can do anything.

7. Stoneware Bowl - I literally have never seen a piece of black stoneware that I didn't want. I love all of the stoneware in the H&H line, but this bowl is the perfect size. Not too big and not too small, this bowl has been my go-to for salads and serving. I will definitely be getting more when Jeff and I move if they are still in stock.

8. Candles - So, I bet you're wondering why candle are on this list...and really, how special can candles be? Hear me out on this one. It it HARD for find non-scented black candles that are good quality and don't fall apart immediately. I used these candles when entertaining many times already and they are still going strong! Great purchase - no regrets.

LIVE on the blog is a full studio tour and interview with July of @julyinbrooklyn.
.
July was kind enough to let me photograph her making a piece in our collection of 10 pieces that is launching in March 2019.
.
Head to the blog (link in profile and my stories) to see all of the photos from part one of this post series and let me know what you think!
.
I love July’s work so much that I bought this pitcher from her as well and loooooove it. Swipe to see a close-up of this piece and let me know if you read the post with all of the studio photos!

Slow progress in this room, but I do love my little plant gang.
.
Also, I was finally able to display my custom sign of the Room Sauce logo made for me by Christina of @southernmesatrading! It has a prime spot between two of my favorite plants with nice light from the windows.
.
Christina is one of those people I know that I can bounce ideas off of any time of the day and her energy and creativity inspire me so much. I love having my friends’ work in my home!

I met July of @julyinbrooklyn on Instagram. A few months ago I decided to pursue a ceramics collaboration to do a limited edition collection of 10 pieces for Room Sauce. I put a call out in my stories and while I got a lot of responses, I knew immediately that July’s work would be the perfect fit.
.
Fast forward and the launch of our collab is only a few weeks away! I went to July’s studio yesterday and had the best time documenting the process of making a piece in the collection.
.
I feel so fortunate to have been able to connect with an amazing artist like July and I realized that we have a lot in common. By day we both make a living in the legal field, but on late nights and weekends we put a lot of energy into creative pursuits. I love meeting other people that pursue creativity no matter what.
.
I hope that through Room Sauce I will be able to highlight other creative people, entrepreneurs, and small businesses through a new blog series called Sauce Makers.
.
July’s article, which will be the first in the Sauce Makers series, with all of the photos and an interview will go live on Thursday, so stayed tuned for that!

Today was a great day. You may know that @julyinbrooklyn and I are working on a ceramics collaboration that’s launching next month. July is making a limited edition run of 10 ceramics for me that will never be made again and I will be doing giveaways and other fun things to celebrate the launch.
.
The pieces are a secret for now, but I can’t wait to show you want they look like!!
.
This morning I did a studio visit and got to see July in action. To see July’s process and talent in person was incredible and she was gracious enough to let me document her work today.
.
Head to my stories to see a full tour of the studio where July does her work @artshackbrooklyn and a sneak peek of shots from our shoot. Here is one of my favorite shots of the studio!

My top 10 staging tips are LIVE on the blog!
.
Head to my stories to hear more of my thoughts on staging and for a link to the post (it’s also in my profile). I know it can feel overwhelming, but I hope they these tips help.
.
My tip for kitchens is to keep things as minimal as possible. Clear everything off of the counters and then add back a few pops of color/decor. Easy!
.
Have you ever staged a home for rent or sale?
.
Ps- this post also has all of the photos I took for the Darien listing!

This. Dining. Room. 😍
.
For those new here, I staged and shot the home of some friends of mine over the weekend and am sharing those images this week. This is definitely one of my favorites. I love how the wood table works with the natural fiber rug and jewel box green walls. And can we talk about that chandelier?!
.
Since I got a ton of questions over the weekend when I shared a sneak peek, I am linking to all of the items in this photos in my stories tonight. I am also sharing the rental listing in my stories, which is live!

A close second to my love of design is photography. Over the next few days I’m going to share photos that I took of my friends’ house over the weekend.
.
I staged and photographed their beautiful home for rental listing photos (the listing is coming soon!)
.
I am launching a full post of staging tips on Thursday, but here is one for open concept rooms: use rugs to define distinct spaces, but don’t be afraid to show off hardwood floors. Staging for listing photos is different than for lifestyle photography. It’s less about your stuff and more about showing off the space.
.
More photos and tips coming this week!
